Desktop Environment

KXStudio uses KDE which integrates well with KXStudio applicattions, some instances of KDE Mint have been used and I myself have used KXStudio applications with an updated version of Ubuntu using Gnome as well as Linux Mint with Cinnamon both using a low-latency kernel. Although KXStudio comes packaged with KDE the applications and plugins can be installed (at times with some difficulty) from the repositories on any Ubuntu based system.
